Writer: Kimberly Cobb, MS
Mrs. Cobb is a Lead SME Writer/Trainer at Relias. Her primary writing responsibilities are in the content areas of public safety and behavioral health. Mrs. Cobb is also the onboarding trainer for new staff joining the Relias Content Department. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She has over 25 years of experience working in criminal and juvenile justice. Instructor: Jared Schechter
Colonel Jared Schechter, with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, is actively working in the field of corrections and jailing services with over 20 years of experience working in and managing the largest jail in the State of Kansas in Wichita. Jared is currently the Jail Administrator and in charge of the 1,206 bed Sedgwick County Adult Local Detention Facility, 180-bed Jail Annex, and the general welfare of the entire inmate population of approximately 1,550 inmates at this time, including inmates housed in other counties. Jared oversees a staff of 300 in the Detention Bureau and a budget of over $32 million.
Jared received his Master of Science in Administration of Justice degree from the University of Louisville in 2013. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Development from Southwestern (KS) College. Jared is an adjunct professor at Wichita State University Tech where he instructs courses on Agency Administration, Corrections, Criminal Law, and Introduction to Criminal Justice.
He is a graduate of the 125th Administrative Officers Course and Police Executive Leadership Graduate Program through the Southern Police Institute. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Large Jail Administrator Program through the National Institute of Corrections. Jared is a Certified Jail Manager and Certified Correctional Manager. He serves as commissioner for the Jail Manager Certification Commission through the American Jail Association, is on the Conference Planning Committee for the American Jail Association, and serves as an executive board member for the Kansas Correctional Association. Jared is also an auditor for Adult Local Detention Facilities through the American Correctional Association. Jared is a member of the American Jail Association and the American Correctional Association.
